The Media Conference is next week!

•March 2, 2009 • Leave a Comment

The Harlow College Media Conference takes place on Thursday, 19 March 2009. Our theme this year is Reach Out. This is a final invitation as we still have some places left on our workshops for the day:

Our Gifted and Talented Newspaper day focuses on the future: Year-10 students from local schools will be discussing and creating the newspaper of the future in a single day! They will be guided through the process of news-gathering, design/recording and delivering by senior College students and staff. Students are not required to wear school uniform on the day unless it is a school requirement. Some places are still available. You can contact me direct with a list of students at rvanloggerenberg@harlow-college.ac.uk. Tel: (01279) 868275.

The HE Focus is specifically aimed at students who are thinking of and will be going to University soon. Staff will be on hand to discuss subject choices, UCAS application (applying for the right course!) and how to pay for your course. In the afternoon, some current HE media students will discuss the realities of life on a University campus.

Our A2 film students will be delivering their Auteur Studies presentations ranging from Kubrick to Pixar. (See attached flyer) These are specifically for film fans and are book-able events. Please forward student and staff names to the e-mail above. We would like to allocate a student ambassador and have a name-badge ready when they arrive.

All our guests are invited to a light lunch in the refectory at 1 pm. This event is sponsored by Aimhigher.

We end the day with a showing of the Gifted and Talented newspaper/artefact at around 4:30 pm. Students can be picked up from 4:45 at reception.

In the evening the Media and Film students of the year 2009 will be announced. Categories include:

  • Best AS and A2 Film
  • Best AS and A2 Magazine
  • Best Original Coursework, not a film/magazine
  • Outstanding Contribution to media and film outside of the Classroom
  • Best AS and A2 Blog
  • Best Essay
  • Best Development of Film or Media Student
  • Student of The Year in Film and Media

We will also be showcasing the best of our student’s work.
